Tutoring Procedures
2007-2008
  • The tutor will work with middle school and high school students from 3 to 5pm in the community room at BHS. Elementary students requiring tutoring will report to the town library at a time determined by the tutor.
  • Elementary students (grades 1-6) are entitled to a minimum of 1 hour per day. Secondary students (grades 7-12) are entitled to 2 hours per day.
  • We provide tutoring to students who are suspended or are medically excused from school. In the first case, a suspension letter is required to be faxed to PPS. In the 2nd case, a doctor's note must be provided attached to the request for tutoring form.
  • A request for tutoring form is only needed in cases of medical excuse.
  • The schools may inform the tutor via email regarding names of suspended students.
  • Students are expected to be in attendance at their assigned times.
  • No tutoring is provided at a student's home unless the student has medical documentation that s/he is physically incapacitated.
  • PPS receives a copy of the suspension letter. The letter should be faxed to us the same day.
  • Suspension letter should indicate that tutoring will be available for the dates of suspension.
  • Assignments must be ready for the dates of suspension or tutoring cannot begin.
  • Depending on a building’s protocol, clerical or guidance staff are responsible for contacting teachers to obtain assignments. For long-term students, the tutor will continue the communication directly with teachers.
  • The tutor will also follow up directly with teachers with regards to work completion in a timely manner.
  • The teacher is still responsible for grading.
  • The tutor is responsible for taking student attendance, logging in the work assignments, and reporting student absences to your office. There is a reporting form for this purpose. The tutor can also call the home to inquire re student absence.
  • If the tutor is absent, he will call in to the HS and PPS. Schools other than the HS will be notified by PPS and in turn will then notify the parents that tutoring is cancelled.
  • When practical, every effort will be made to make up the time.
